You are a human BEING not a human DOING

File 29-10-2017, 07 31 50

So how have you BEEN today? How is just BEING working for you? What does it look like? If you just ARE, what’s that?

You may not have asked yourself these questions. It’s ok, we tend not to. We seem to be conditioned to be doing in order to feel worthy and to class our lives as meaningful.

But look in the mirror. You ARE even without the doing. And you ARE WORTH without the doing.

So it may be worth honouring that some of the time.

May be it’s time to sit still a little. Listen in a little. Look at yourself. Pause. Feel the feelings. Think the thoughts. See the visions on the back of your closed eyes. Immerse yourself in colours. Music. Nature. Sleep.

Basically now and then do little. It’s totally ok to just BE. Why not think about what that might look like, feel like and be about today. I think you might like it.

Enjoy being!

Much love,

Eliza Do Little

Time is the ultimate limited resource: are you spending it wisely?

File 22-10-2017, 17 36 19

As it happens, at the moment that’s the limit. 24 x 7 x 52 x ?

That’s all you’ve got and you cannot make it more.

Not so with other limiting resources.

You can lose money and then make it; spend it recklessly and then get paid again. You can make new friends if you’ve lost the ones you had, or win them back. You can lose your mojo and then find it; lose your energy and then get charged up again. You can pretty much have more of anything, make more of anything, grow more of anything, accumulate more of anything. Over time.

Except time.

That’s fixed. 24 hours, 7 days, 52 weeks, and an unknown number of years, a good chunk of which is already behind you. Which all the more begs your attention. It calls for a level of attention sharpening.

What are you doing with it – time? No, really. How are you spending it? Because once it’s spent, it’s spent. A shooting star through the sky.

While you are busy with busy jobs, and never ending household chores, and inconsequential appointments with people who matter little, you are spending the one limiting resources you cannot get back or more of. You’ve got to do little of the stuff which does not matter in the grand scheme of things and make room for doing at least a little of the stuff that might be called a life well lived.

Find the courage to do today, without delay, a little of the stuff that you want to do “one day”. And do little today of the stuff that sucks your time up while you do it every day.

In other words, spend time wisely.

Much love,

Eliza Do Little of the stuff which does not matter, but do at least a little of stuff which does

When you want to press ⏪ simply press ⏸, don’t press ⏩

Sometimes, a lot of times, wonderful things happen in life. Birthdays and giving birth days, getting the job days, falling in love days, running a marathon days, getting a dog days, dancing on stage days… There is no particular order to the wonderful things that happen in life and no limit to their type. Sometimes we work hard for them. Sometimes they just roll on and take us by surprise.

When wonderful things happen in life we wish we could press ⏪ and relive them all over again, make them last. They are that wonderful! But all too often we press ⏩ and move on to the next thing. Which is a mistake.

Right there, in that window of space just after a wonderful thing happens, we absolutely have to press ⏸ instead and sit with the memories.

File 04-10-2017, 18 15 25

Wonderful things that happen in life deserve to be savoured before we move on and they fade away in our rear view mirror. They long to be held in the palm of our thoughts and reconnected with so we can process all the details our soul captured of the event, even those we could not possibly process at the time of it happening. That requires our time and attention. If we are too busy and we zoom on to the next thing too soon we will miss the chance to experience the echo of the wonderful things that happen. For it is in that space just after wonderful things happen that deep contentment and gratitude reside.

We really need to master the courage to stop when wonderful things happen, to press “pause” and do little. To not press forward.

Doing little is the closest we will ever get to “rewind” anyway. And getting that is simply wonderful.

Much love,

Eliza Do Little
